A MESSAGE FROM THE WCA PRESIDENT
Last year we had planned on celebrating our 30th anniversary in Cody, Wyoming, just as we did for our 25th Anniversary in 2015. Unfortunately, we had to postpone that celebration due to COVID-19. After monitoring the situation since that time, the WCA board recently decided to move forward again planning our convention for this summer, exactly 1 year later, which will be held July 15th-17th, 2021.
We apologize for the delay getting this information out to you, but we really wanted to wait as long as possible because we did not want to have to postpone the convention for a second time if the situation changed again. The itinerary will be similar to what we had planned for last year - starting at the Weatherby facility in Sheridan on Thursday July 15th for a VIP tour in the morning and then in Cody Thursday afternoon through Saturday July 17th where we will do many group activities together (including annual meetings) and then end with a banquet hosted at the Cody Firearms Museum.
If you weren’t in Cody last time, and aren’t sure what to expect, here is a list of the many attractions and activities that members took in: The World-Famous Cody Rodeo, VIP tour of the Cody Firearms Museum, famous Irma Hotel and Restaurant, Dan Miller’s Cowboy Music revue at the old Cody theatre, “Old Trail Town”, trolley tour of Cody, Buffalo Bill Dam just west of Cody along the Shoshone River, sporting clays at the Cody Shooting Complex, white water rafting, horseback riding, shopping, and touring the other four museums in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Some families also took advantage of the close proximity to other local attractions such as Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park, and the Teton Mountains. There were more things to do than time to do them!
We realize that some of our membership may not be comfortable coming this year, and that is OK, but for those of you that are looking to get out and to get away, and feel safe doing so, we would love to see you! It will be 2 years since our last convention, and we thought it was time to start moving forward.
Please make sure to get your hotel rooms booked ASAP and to send your banquet meal reservation form in soon (form found in the upcoming April newsletter)! Due to the uncertainty of the number of attendees, as well as having a variety of options for different levels of hotels, the WCA did NOT reserve a block of rooms this year. I know that many in the group plan on getting a hotel room in Sheridan on Wednesday evening (7/14) before the Weatherby tour Thursday morning and then in Cody Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings in Cody (7/15-7/17). We will provide more information in the next newsletter, as well as our website, for more specific details on the itinerary. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to email me at email@example.com.
We hope to see many of you there but mostly that you are all doing well. Thanks!
John Duffy, WCA President
